"The Oyster armchair borrows inspiration from the organic design of the 1950s. The use of foam moulding technology generated the sophisticated form of its seat. The elegant shape as well as attention to detail and ergonomics make the armchair cosy and inviting. The choice of upholstery and base versions allows for customising the piece and adapting it to its desired function. It is a perfect design both for domestic and public spaces. Its more extravagant, upholstered version highlights the fabric, accentuating its volume, texture and abundance. "

Genesis and inspirations

The fluidity of the seat and irregular fabric folds turn this version of Oyster into a refined and expressive artefact. The protagonist of the interior, which immediately catches attention. The version with upholstery tightly adjoining the core is enriched with extra cushions for the seat and the backrest. These are permanently sewn to upholstery for the sake of greater comfort. This durable variant of Oyster will perfectly function in public spaces, graced by its impeccable silhouette.

Three versions of the base are available, which allow for matching Oyster to various types of spaces. There is the iconic, steel, tubular base designed by Krystian Kowalski with reference to Teresa Kruszewska’s designs; there is the original steel base, also designed by Kowalski, with a 360 degrees memory return swivel; finally, there is the five-point aluminium base, either polished or painted in any colour from the RAL palette. Combined with the two upholstery styles, this offers absolute freedom in arranging a variety of spaces.

Since the launch of its production Oyster has enjoyed unwavering popularity in domestic interiors as well as in offices and public spaces. Its organic shapes and outstanding ergonomics, softness and sophisticated details quickly garnered Oyster the status of one of Comforty’s most distinctive products, a true modern-day icon of Polish design. The development of this model is also an example of a very successful collaboration with the designer, an ideal fusion of knowledge, production technology, well used know-how and talent. A symbolic confirmation of this product’s unique qualities came with the inclusion of Oyster’s “duvet” version with the tubular base into the design gallery of the National Museum in Warsaw, where it proudly represents the joint work of Comforty and Krystian Kowalski among the most outstanding achievements of Polish design.
