Genesis and inspirations
The enormity of possible combinations is the greatest advantage of this product. The Palafitte sofa is designed for the home, but its modularity establishes it as an equally interesting piece for the contract market. – LucidiPevere
Expanded in 2017, the modern-day Palafitte sofa family, designed by the renowned Italian duo LucidiPevere from Udine (Paolo Lucidi, Luca Pevere), has gained entirely new, practical modules, which enable a bolder use of the perfectly devised form and typology of this furniture. It can now be more easily embedded in both domestic and public architectural designs. Palafitte conveys a new vision of comfort founded on the individualism of its users, while responding to their need of proximity and safety at the same time. The soft seat cushions appear to be cased in the upholstered sides, evoking the typology of the nest, a micro-environment in which we read, play, find calm. Various sizes and proportions of chaise longue modules are meant to respond to the individual needs of several users enjoying the sofa’s elaborate arrangement at the same time.
The Palafitte design was submitted to the Future Classics competition, organised by Comforty in 2009. Already at that point, it manifested a distinctive boldness in developing a new typology, a certain ambition to create a more architectural, expanded furniture design to be situated in the centre of a room. This aspect was highlighted especially by the jury member Patricia Urquiola. The originality of this concept compelled us to launch the production of Palafitte. The sofa has retained its fresh look and lost nothing of its timeless silhouette. Solid wood accents lend the product a sense of warmth and draw attention to environmental issues, since wood is an easy material to renovate and recycle.
The extensive range of modules allows for configuring all kinds of practical sets for domestic use and the contract market. Aside from asymmetrical combinations with the chaise longue, it also includes typical corners, armchairs, sofas of several lengths, free-standing chaise longues and footstools. The sofa is optionally available with a decorative welt in contrasting colours.
Velcro-fastened to the compact casing, the backrest cushions contain a core that stabilises their shape and enhances comfort.
The seat is filled with a combination of high-resilience foam and down. A version with fully synthetic filling is also available for those sensitive to allergens, which can be used in public spaces.
A characteristic feature of Palafitte is its open form, which can be free-standing in an open space or placed against the wall.
The collection also includes accessories: beautiful wooden tables, a wooden console table added to one of the arrangements, a blanket hanger.
